Liverpool city centre is lovely, busy, full of vibrant life and wealth but travel just a mile or so into the outskirts of the city and things are very different. These houses line the streets around Liverpool Football Club. The club bought them up with the view to building a new, bigger stadium. For now the money for this project has dried up and so row upon row of these houses sit there, rotting, boarded up, empty, scaring a local community that is clearly suffering terribly in the current economic climate. To me there is something truly wrong about all this….
“You can spend the money on new housing for poor people and the homeless, or you can spend it on a football stadium or a golf course.” ~ Jello Biafra
