Day 300 – Renewable world

Wind power generator with sunset, renewable

“There is an urgent need to stop subsidizing the fossil fuel industry, dramatically reduce wasted energy, and significantly shift our power supplies from oil, coal, and natural gas to wind, solar, geothermal, and other renewable energy sources.” ~ Bill McKibben

I know that some people hate the way these wind farms look. They don’t want them in their communities blighting the landscape. In some ways I can understand that and yet you have to think about a bigger picture. Think about how nuclear power stations not only look but the threat they pose to a huge area in which they are located. Do people really think fossil fuel power stations look beautiful? No, they just don’t have them in their neck of the woods so they don’t think about them. They are ugly, dirty and pollute our world. Yes this windmills are imposing and some might say ugly but if you think about what they do and how they do it, then surely they are a price worth paying. Me? Well I think they have a majestic beauty to them.

I agree! And you show, with your beautiful picture, that wind farms can be part of the landscape. I hope that we will get more here in Italy (we said “no” to the nuclear power with a referendum some years ago, but we still need to increase the other green alternatives!)

I don’t mind them though we don’t have as many as we should here in the states.

    Wise words from Bill McKibben.

Beautiful photo, with this combination of different plans.

    Hi Molly,
everyone likes the old windmills. I like the modern, contemporary mills, too.
