Covent Garden started life as an open-air fruit and vegetable market in 1654. The covered part of the market was not introduced until 1830. Over the year what has been sold there have changed but even today it is still essentially a place to buy and sell things. There is still a market, although you won’t find fruit and vegetables or many flowers, they have been replaced with art, collectibles, clothes and restaurants as well as a thriving community of street performers. If you visit London you really must include this in your places to go. This picture was taken in the covered area of the market that is no full of expensive boutique and designer shops.
