“Why, man, he doth bestride the narrow world
Like a Colossus”
~ William Shakespeare
This is the beautiful Clifton Suspension Bridge. It spans the Avon gorge and links the city of Bristol to Clifton on the other side. It was opened in 1864 and really is an amazing feat of engineering. The weight of the bridge, including chains, rods, girders and deck is approximately 1,500 tons. It has become an iconic landmark of Bristol and is now very much part of the beautiful view down the Avon gorge.
My mum has been crossing that bridge a lot recently, and she says it is a long way down, it looks like that there too, Clio lending a helping hand for Coombe Mill
