lone gate in morning sunlight and frost

I have walked past this gate more times than I care to think about. It right in the centre of our local woodlands where the 3 main paths meet and it stands proudly there, always locked and yet what is it’s purpose? I have stood at this gate and pondered this question over and over again. There is no old fence, or even natural boundary yet here it stands alone and pointless apart from providing every person who ever comes across it with an unsolved mystery and for people like me a photograph that for once even I can see, rocks!
