Yesterday was Mothering Sunday in the UK and I was thoroughly indulged. Being a parent is without doubt the hardest thing I have ever done. It is exhausting, emotionally draining and relentless and no one can really explain that to you until you actually do it for yourself. You think they are needy when they are tiny babies but only recently have I come to realise that those where in fact the easy days, it is now as we approach the teenage years that those baby days seem to be a walk in the park in comparison to this mine field. One moment we have monster child and the next, he is back to being my little boy, laying across the end of my bed as he watches me open my cards.
“A suburban mother’s role is to deliver children obstetrically once, and by car for ever after” – Peter De Vries
