There is a privacy about it which no other season gives you…. In spring, summer and fall people sort of have an open season on each other; only in the winter, in the country, can you have longer, quiet stretches when you can savor belonging to yourself. ~Ruth Stout
I think this is especially true on misty winter days because it wraps the world up in its embrace and makes me feel smaller and quieter. Even if there is someone else out walking you are unlikely to see them or even hear them. It is just you and the birds braving the cold and the moment feels like it belongs to you and you alone.
An eerie shot. I don’t like fog for driving, but if I am out walking or riding my quad (and horse years ago) it makes you feel like you are the only person left in the world. – Margy
