To me the old style red phone boxes seem just as much an iconic image of London as Tower Bridge or the Houses of Parliament and yet the rise of the mobile phone and the internet has resulted in these 2 dinosaurs of communication proudly sitting side by side in St Katharine’s Dock waiting for someone to use them… No-one made a phone call of posted a letter while I was there but there was a steady stream of tourists posing for photographs with them.
“Two of the cruelest, most primitive punishments our town deals out to those who fall from favor are the empty mailbox and the silent telephone.” ~ Hedda Hopper

Beautiful photo, oh, so true and so well put, Molly! It does seem sad that people pose in front of, but do not use, formerly essential and appreciated “dinosaurs of communication.”
