Lamb tail in green grass

Day 167 – Little Lamb

“Mary had a little lamb, His fleece was white as snow, And everywhere that Mary went, The lamb was sure to go." This field was full of lambs with their Mothers. I spent a long time trying to capture them cavorting round but they were just too unpredictable and all the images came out a bit blurry.  However I really like this one of this little fella happily feasting away on the lush green grass with his woolly white tail clearly all on show. The dark shadow to the right is his Mother who was giving me a good hard…

Spring frothy blossom against white sky

Day 147 – Frothy

"Last week looking at it through the window when I'm writing, I see it is the whitest, frothiest, blossomest blossom that there ever could be." ~ Dennis Potter I love this description. I think it is so true. Looking out my window I could also seem the tree full of blossom and it swaying its branches, adorned with frothy white blossom back and forth in the spring breeze like a soft white cloud tinged with pink that had fallen from the sky and got trapped in the branches of a tree.

Day 137 – Lavender bonnet

"It always seems to me as if the lavender was a little woman in a green dress, with a lavender bonnet and a white kerchief. She's one of those strong, sweet, wholesome people, who always rest you, and her sweetness lingers long after she goes away." ~ Myrtle Reed I love this description not just because I think it conjurers up such a strong image but because it contains the word bonnet. Why don't we use that word more? It has such a lovely ring to it. Go on, say it out loud, Bonnet. It feels nice to say and…

Day 133 – May Blue

"'Tis like the birthday of the world, When earth was born in bloom; The light is made of many dyes, The air is all perfume: There's crimson buds, and white and blue, The very rainbow showers Have turned to blossoms where they fell, And sown the earth with flowers." ~ Thomas Hood These beautiful Bluebells are growing in my garden right outside the door which I can see from my desk. As I work I can see them nodding in the May breeze and beyond them the rest of the garden is springing into action and every feels alive.  …

Black and White edit of cherry tree blossom april month

Day 128 – One Month

"The sun was warm but the wind was chill. You know how it is with an April day. When the sun is out and the wind is still, You're one month on in the middle of May. But if you so much as dare to speak, a cloud come over the sunlit arch, And wind comes off a frozen peak, And you're two months back in the middle of March." -  Robert Frost Oh how true these words are. One moment there is warm sunshine and it feels like the world is welcoming and the next the clouds come and…

Looking down into red tulips petal

Day 125 – Petal Poetry

"Flowers rewrite soil, water, and sunshine into petal poetry." ~ Terri Guillemets First the Daffodils come to show us that winter is on the wane. They stand bold and tall against the last gasps of the dark season. As the Spring takes hold they are joined and then replaced with a mad flurry of colour, blossom, hyacinths, spring green leaves and the best of the lot; Tulips. Reaching up like colourful cups to the sky, drinking in the new seasons warmth and decorating the land a riot of hues.

three little ducks reflected in water

Day 120 – Three little ducks

"Three little ducks went swimming one day..." I found this little cuties on a local fishing pond near my home. There were actually 5 ducklings and their mother but the other 2 seemed much more timid and stayed right beside her all the time whilst these three keep buzzing off all over the place. The mother duck kept a close eye and if they got to far would hurry after them but for the most part she seemed content to float around nearby and let them explore.

Men sitting by pond fishing taking in serenity

Day 118 – Fishing for serenity

"There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind." ~ Washington Irving I guess this must be the case but fishing is something that I just do not get. I understand the solitude, the quiet, the peace etc but just sitting there would not work for me. I need something to do or else I get bored and irritable and I am pretty sure sitting and staring at the water hoping that something might happen at some point would drive me bonkers. Each to their own though, if fishing is your thing, I hope…

Day 111 – While Walking

“All truly great thoughts are conceived while walking.” ~ Friedrich Nietzsche There is a lot of truth to this quote in my experience. I love walking, it is my preferred exercise. There is something about getting out into the countryside that just makes me feel calm and alive. It also combines perfectly with my love of photography too. I do like going for walks with people but really I love it best when I am on my own because that is when I can just relax and let my body carry and my brain go where it wants. Many of…

Day 107 – Clouds that come and go

“The sky and the sun are always there. It's the clouds that come and go.” ~ Rachel Joyce I love a perfectly clear blue sky. It is not something we get a lot of in the UK but when we do they are utterly beautiful but a sky with lots of blue and those fat puffy clouds sailing through it are also fabulous. There is something about those clouds that I find beautiful. Yes they block my beloved sun now and then but they also dance across the sky decorating it with their ever changing shapes.

Day 98 – Spring March

A Light exists in Spring Not present on the Year At any other period -- When March is scarcely here ~ Emily Dickinson I know March has been and gone but I took this image right at the beginning of that month when winter still lingered, the trees stood bare and the signs of spring were only evident in the light that spilled from the skies. How much difference a month can make when seasons come and go.
