Gold of daffodil with sunlight

Day 88 – Fair Gold

"I wonder what spendthrift chose to spill Such a bright gold under my windowsill! Is it fair gold? Does it glitter still? Bless me! It's a daffodil!" ~ Celia Thaxter

Day 83 – Bunch o’ daffs

"When daffodils begin to peer, With heigh! the doxy, over the dale, Why, then comes in the sweet o' the year" ~ William Shakespeare This is a bunch of daffodils that were in that 'not quite done' state where they are starting to crinkle and dry. I have acquired a few mirrors of late for the purpose of photography and I this image was part of an initial play with them. I like how the mirror has given the illusion of depth and that the flowers look like they are disappearing into the darkness.

Day 81 – Spring Joy

“People from a planet without flowers would think we must be mad with joy the whole time to have such things about us.” ~ Iris Murdoch

Day 80 – Rosemary

"I plant rosemary all over the garden, so pleasant is it to know that at every few steps one may draw the kindly branchlets through one's hand, and have the enjoyment of their incomparable incense; and I grow it against walls, so that the sun may draw out its inexhaustible sweetness to greet me as I pass." ~ Gertrude Jekyll I wish I had a wall to grow it up against. Instead I keep it in a tall pot just outside my front door so that you can brush your hand through it as you come and go. At the…

Day 79 – Yellow head

“She turned to the sunlight And shook her yellow head, And whispered to her neighbor: "Winter is dead.” ~ A.A. Milne Finally winter is dead. Every now and then you can still find it lurking in the shadows and shade when a cold wind blows but the plants and birds clearly know the truth of the matter and for time being winter has had its fill and it is the turn of spring now.

Day 74 – Coming of Spring

"Oh, Spring is surely coming, Her couriers fill the air; Each morn are new arrivals, Each night her ways prepare; I scent her fragrant garments, Her foot is on the stair." ~John Burroughs

Day 65 – Spring Again

“It is spring again. The earth is like a child that knows poems by heart.” ~ Rainer Maria Rilke And they are good poems full of light and colour and hope. Sometimes you have to search for them though, after all this is only spring and the rain and dark clouds can hide those poems in its dark watery embrace but not forever because spring is pretty determined to tell its story

Day 62 – Little Yellow

“You can cut all the flowers but you cannot keep Spring from coming.” ~ Pablo Neruda And thank goodness for that because Spring is my second favourite season after summer which I love the best. This daffodil was a victim of the wind though, so I rescued it and popped it into a vase on the kitchen window sill but not before laying it on a mirror and taking its picture. The result is this rather cool reflection shot of this little yellow beauty.

Day 60 – Sparkle with joy

"If you want to see the sunshine, you have to weather the storm." ~ Frank Lane And nothing weather the storm or should that be the last of the winter cold quite like Snowdrops and when they do get to the see the sunshine they seem to almost sparkle with joy. I love that I managed to capture a brave little bee in this shot too. I only hope he has not braved it too soon and a late spring frost does not catch him out.

Day 53 – First Crocus

"Fair-handed Spring unbosoms every grace; throws out the snowdrop and the crocus first." ~ James Thomson And on my front lawn there is the first signs of spring pushing its way through the grass and I am so happy to see it's bright yellow face every morning when I step out the door. Winter still lingers but Spring is making an appearance and slowly silencing its cold voice.

Day 167 – Little Lamb

“Mary had a little lamb, His fleece was white as snow, And everywhere that Mary went, The lamb was sure to go." This field was full of lambs with their Mothers. I spent a long time trying to capture them cavorting round but they were just too unpredictable and all the images came out a bit blurry.  However I really like this one of this little fella happily feasting away on the lush green grass with his woolly white tail clearly all on show. The dark shadow to the right is his Mother who was giving me a good hard…

Spring frothy blossom against white sky

Day 147 – Frothy

"Last week looking at it through the window when I'm writing, I see it is the whitest, frothiest, blossomest blossom that there ever could be." ~ Dennis Potter I love this description. I think it is so true. Looking out my window I could also seem the tree full of blossom and it swaying its branches, adorned with frothy white blossom back and forth in the spring breeze like a soft white cloud tinged with pink that had fallen from the sky and got trapped in the branches of a tree.
