Molly wearing white hat with rosy glow cheeks self portrait

Day 23 – Rosy Glow

Do not wish an everlasting spring! Without tasting the winter, you cannot get pleasure out of the spring! ~ Mehmet Murat ildanAnd the best way to taste winter is to go out and walk around in it especially on clear bright frosty days. Those are the best winter days. You get the blast of winter sunshine that helps bring a rosy glow to your cheeks even though the cold nips at your nose and lips. You can't help but feel invigorated and just that little bit more alive then you would have done if you had stayed indoors.

Self portrait of molly with the camera

Day 1 – The camera and me

“For last year's words belong to last year's language And next year's words await another voice.” ~ T.S. Eliot Or in my case another image. This will be my 6th year of the 365 Project and so I thought what better way to start it off than with an image that is about the camera and me.

Day 358 – Christmas self reflection

"Christmas is a season not only of rejoicing but of reflection." ~ Winston Churchill And what better than a little self reflection?

Day 351 – Wintry night

“...freshly cut Christmas trees smelling of stars and snow and pine resin - inhale deeply and fill your soul with wintry night...” ~ John Geddes My favourite thing about Christmas is my decorations. Every year I buy a proper tree and cover it with pretty sparkly things. I love the soft glow of the lights in the corner of the room and the soft delicate smell that the tree fills the house with.

Day 332 – A paw in each world

“You cannot live with a paw in each world.” ~ Erin Hunter  Look carefully, what do you see? Is this cat or is this me? There are whiskers and eye lashes, fur and skin. It is a bit of me and a bit of feline him.

Day 297 – Hold my hand

“I don't know where my road is going, but I know that I walk better when I hold your hand.” ~ Alfred de Musset This is a bit of an experimental shot that I took a few months ago. It was inspired by a series of images I had seen where one single body part was the focus of the picture and I wanted to try creating my own version. It is something I will continue to work on but I rather liked the movement in this one and yet parts of my hand and fingers remain really sharp in…

wax man Paul in London

Day 274 – Paul

“The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion that stands at the cradle of true art and true science.” ~ Albert Einstein I spotted this in the window of the University of the Arts in Holborn, London. It is called Paul and is by Eun Jung Ha. There were no other details about it apart from that. He looks a bit like a bouncer you would find on a door to a club. A typical 'hard man' look but in his hand he is holding and looking down at a tiny little fluffy…

Day 262 – Perfect love

“Love is needing someone. Love is putting up with someone's bad qualities because they somehow complete you.” ~ Sarah Dessen I love him so very much and for reasons I am still not sure of he seems to utterly love me too despite all my faults. I think that is what loving someone is about at the end of the day because we all have faults. No one is perfect. What even is perfect? The key is finding someone who is perfect for you regardless of their or your imperfections. I count myself very lucky that second time around I…

Day 170 – The Nape

“my love is a winter’s mist gently dissolving through the window at the nape of your neck.” ~ Sanober Khan In case you are wondering this a self portrait. I take a lot of them. This one was part of a series that I took one evening using just a simple soft light from a lamp. I loved the way it created darkness and shadows but of course the trick if getting the ISO right to avoid having too much noise in the image. I spent rather a long time working on it but got a result I was pleased…

Day 96 – Stand Tall

"Better stand tall when they're calling you out Don't bend, don't break, baby, don't back down" ~ It's my life by Bon Jovi

Day 89 – Reachin’ out

"Hands, touchin' hands Reachin' out, touchin' me, touchin' you" ~ Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond This is a self portrait I took and then edited in Topaz Fusion Lens Effect as well as working on the light and contrast to give my hands a dark gnarly look. I know it is probably a bit sinister and spooky to go with this 'sweet' song but I rather like that contrast and the suggestion that the lyrics of this song could have another meaning.

Molly and daughter, self portrait, black and white, mini me

Day 65 – Mini and me

I think there is no doubt about the genetics at play here.  She is pretty much a mini version of me (to look at that is) apart from the eye colour, which you can not see here, but hers a piercing brilliant blue and mine are a strange green colour.
