boarded up houses in Liverpool

Day 52 – The Other Side

Liverpool city centre is lovely, busy, full of vibrant life and wealth but travel just a mile or so into the outskirts of the city and things are very different. These houses line the streets around Liverpool Football Club. The club bought them up with the view to building a new, bigger stadium. For now the money for this project has dried up and so row upon row of these houses sit there, rotting, boarded up, empty, scaring a local community that is clearly suffering terribly in the current economic climate. To me there is something truly wrong about…

Day 49 – Wheel In The Sky

We are spending the weekend in Southport. Yesterday our friends took us into Liverpool and we went on the Liverpool eye. It was a truly beautiful crisp winters day, with bright clear sunshine. However it was blowing a pretty fearsome wind that not only was damn cold but rocked the little pods on the eye in a rather alarming manner. The views were amazing though but I am afraid I didn't get any pictures of them as I was far to busy being scared out of my wits. (To see yesterdays view of the eye click HERE) “I see nothing…

Day 48 – Liverpool

We are spending the weekend in Southport, which is just outside Liverpool. Today we have spent a fabulous day in Liverpool with our friends. I have taken tons and tons of photographs and we have laughed and talked and walked and frozen our sorry little behinds off and it has been utterly fabulous. "That immense City which stands like another Venice upon the water..." ~ Thomas Erskine, 1st Baron Erskine Ps.. Lots more about Liverpool tomorrow for Sunday In My City

Day 46 – Sparkles In The Snow

Today there is clear blue skies and the sun is shining, looking out of the window it appears to be a lovely day and most of the snow has melted away. In fact looking out the window today it is hard to believe that just a few days ago I took this image but then you step outside and the cold wind that is snaking it's way around the land reminds you that this is still February and not March or April and that just because the sun is shining does not mean that winter is over.... yet! "No…

Day 31 – By The Book

My daughter is a total book worm. In fact that is an understatement, she is a book monster. She consumes them with a ferocity and speed that is at times astounding. In the last week alone she has read 4 books. None of them were particularly short or 'easy reads' either but then the school informs me she has a reading age of over 11 years. She is 8 years old. I love that she loves books, she has a lifetime of discovery ahead of her; adventures, love affairs, deaths, mysteries, fantasies, worlds that she can't even begin to…

Day 21 – Tick Tock

The 365 project is 3 weeks old today. I know that is no great milestone but if you bothered to read the about page on this site you will see that when I started this project I was having some serious doubts about the whole thing and worrying about whether I could possible fit it into an already packed creative schedule. It would seem that the answer appears to be, that I can, although I don't want to get too over-confident after all it has only been 3 weeks but so far so good. I have learnt something though;…

Day 17 – Captured

As we rounded the bend in the woods the shafts of sun light cutting through the trees caught my eye. The combination of the cold frost filling air and the slanted light seemed to creating a magical morning mist. I took this picture in the hope that some of that scene might be transported here but you never really know what you have got until you upload the picture and see it properly. Only then do you really know if you trapped the moment or if it escaped. "Sunlight is painting." ~ Nathaniel Hawthorne Ps... Please check out The…
