Day 354 – Sparkle and Glisten

"I'm dreaming of a white Christmas, Just like the ones I used to know, Where the tree tops glisten And children listen To hear sleigh bells in the snow..." ~ Irving Berlin I wish soooo hard that we would have a white Christmas here in the UK but it never happens. In fact where I live near London we have not had any proper snowfall for a couple of years now. I am a big winter fan but I do like the snow so I will continue to hope for some in 2017, after all, winter has a while to…

Black and White of gladioli bloom, delight for the soul

Day 345 – Delight for the soul

“To see in color is a delight for the eye but to see in black and white is a delight for the soul.” – Andri Cauldwell Sometimes the light makes a thing even more beautifully perfect than it already is. If you are very lucky you capture that moment in your camera.

Day 342 – Crystal gems

"December drops no weak, relenting tear, By our fond summer sympathies ensnared; Nor from the perfect circle of the year Can even winter's crystal gems be spared." ~ Christopher Pearse Cranch

Day 333 – Fabulous Pink

"I think everyone loves a slash of red lipstick." ~ Gwendoline Christie I don't wear makeup very often but I do like a bit of fabulous lipstick now and then. This is one of my favourites, It is actually more pink than red, in fact it is a shimmery shiny pink. Not all fabulous lipstick is red you know.

Day 331 – Wood wide web

“Trees live in symbiosis with hyphae (fungus/mold roots). A tea spoon of dirt contains kilometers of these roots. One species can spread throughout entire forests over centuries. They exchange nutrients with trees, along with information about insects, drought and other dangers. It's like a 'wood wide web'.” ~ Peter Wohlleben

Day 328 – Seeds of change

"The seed of everything is in everything else." ~ Anaxagoras What I love about these seeds, because that is essentially what they are, is that they look like little lumps of wood. They are so shiny and smooth when they first burst out of their protective shells but over time they nestle down into the grass and the brown wood-like skin eventually splits open so that roots can form downwards and a shoot appears not long after growing upwards towards the sky. Sadly many of these trees are under threat in the UK from both disease but also development of…

Day 325 – Small wonders

"The world is full of magical things patiently waiting for our wits to grow sharper." ~ Bertrand Russell Sometimes you have to get down on your hands and knees to see them properly though. Because down on the ground there are small wonders waiting to be discovered, mini little worlds of life waiting to be discovered. You just have to get down into their worlds with them to really see their true beauty.

Day 322 – Indoor soul

"Every flower is a soul blossoming in nature." ~ Gerard De Nerval Right now nature is taking a bit of a winter break. I am not a big one for buying cut flowers but now and then you just need to bring a bit of colour and life into things especially when there is so little of it out in the garden.

Day 320 – Grand finale

“Fall has always been my favorite season. The time when everything bursts with its last beauty, as if nature had been saving up all year for the grand finale.” ~ Lauren DeStefano One of the best bits of that grand finale is the conkers. Seeing their shells pop open and releasing their perfectly shiny seed from within always reminds me of my childhood when I would go out with my Grandparents into the wood and collect them up in my pockets. They felt like treasure then and now as an adult I can't help but still see them as such.

Day 311 – Pea-green

"I want everybody who's been mean to me to be pea-green with envy." ~ Scarlett O'Hara Scarlett is not the most likable of heroines. In fact many people really dislike her but I adore her. She is sassy, strong, determined and hugely resourceful. All traits that would be valued in a man but are frowned upon in a women. Sadly her upbringing meant she was very conflicted about herself and her role in society but it is that constant battle that makes her such a wonderfully interesting character to me.

Day 298 – Pastel Pink

“October proved a riot a riot to the senses and climaxed those giddy last weeks before Halloween.” ~ Keith Donohue This pretty little soft pink rose is flowering in my front garden. As I write this I can see it through the window valiantly bobbing about in the Autumn sunlight. It seems unaware that the summer is gone and really it should be bedding down for the winter. I am not complaining though, it looks so pretty out there showing off its pastel pink petals. I hope the frost stays away and it continues with its rebellious activities.

Day 294 – Little Gems

“The morning was full of sunlight and hope.” ~ Kate Chopin I am not a morning person, well not an early morning person. I much prefer the night hours and we rarely go to bed before midnight. I am happy with that. However when it comes to photography it does mean that I often miss those golden hours when the sun rises and the world awakens. Not always though, sometimes if I know the weather is going to be just right then I will make the effort and go and greet the morning with my camera and sometimes the world…
