Starry Starry night Paint your palette blue and grey ~ Don Mclean I took this picture in the car park at my daughters school. I liked the relationship between the drain and arrow. When I got home I put it into Lightroom and made a few changes to the contrast and exposure but it still seemed to be lacking something until I looked at from a different angle. Then it took on a whole new dimension.
"Truly, the bench is a boon to idlers. Whoever first came up with the idea is a genius: free public resting places where you can take time out from the bustle and brouhaha of the city, and simply sit and watch and reflect." ~ Tom Hodgkinson
“Owners of dogs will have noticed that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they will think you are god. Whereas owners of cats are compelled to realize that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they draw the conclusion that they are gods.” ~ Christopher Hitchens
“When you wake up in the morning, Pooh,” said Piglet at last, “what’s the first thing you say to yourself?” “What’s for breakfast,” said Pooh. “What do you say, Piglet?” “I say, I wonder what’s going to happen exciting today?” said Piglet. Pooh nodded thoughtfully. “It’s the same thing,” he said." ~ A.A. Milne, Winnie the Pooh
"Thick February mists cling heavily To the dead earth and to each leafless tree, And closer down upon the hilltops draw, Dull forecasts there of bright, sure-coming spring; Yet the heart gathers hope and strange delight From this dear, unlovely, wished-for sight Of leaden-misted twilights lengthening." ~ Emma Lazarus
“What use is care? What good is watching for that matter? People are forever watching things. They should be seeing. I see the things I look at. I am a see-er.” ~ Patrick Rothfuss This was taken on the viewing platform in The Shard in London. The view is stunning but it was interesting watching people and seeing just how many of them seemed utterly uninterested in that view. I am not sure how you could stand here and not be transfixed by this unique and glorious view but it made for interesting watching
"A photographic portrait is a picture of someone who knows he is being photographed, and what he does with this knowledge is as much a part of the photograph as what he's wearing or how he looks." ~ Richard Avedon She knew I was taking her picture but she chose to ignore me and carry on reading her book. As a general rule she likes being my model but sometimes she just can't be bothered with it. What she does not realise is that sometimes that is my favourite response because then I get to take a portrait of her…
“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” ~ Elliott Erwitt
Now we've got holes in our hearts, yeah we've got holes in our lives Where we've got holes, we've got holes but we carry on ~ Passenger At the end of last year we went with my children to see Passenger in concert. For both my kids it was their first live gig experience and so I was super delighted that we go their earlier enough for them both to be near the front especially my daughter who, like me, is on the short side. As for you can see from this shot she was utterly lost in the moment.…
"The space within becomes the reality of the building." ~ Frank Lloyd Wright And when the space within is abandoned and unloved that becomes the reality of the whole building. This was, as you can just make out from the former sign, the Shredded Wheat factory that is in my town. Shredded Wheat left nearly 10 years ago. There has been much fighting and debate about the future of this building but whilst that all drags on it sits empty and slowly but surely disintegrates.
