Burthgley house in black and white edit haunting gothic building

Day 121 – Haunting

"Sometimes, when I walk along the corridor here, I fancy I hear her just behind me. That quick, light footstep. I could not mistake it anywhere...It's almost as though I catch the sound of her dress sweeping the stairs as she comes down to dinner. Do you think she can see us, talking to one another now? Do you think the dead come back and watch the living?" ~ Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier This is actually Burghley House in Lincolnshire and whilst not being a Gothic in design in the right light it definitely has some of those haunting…

Day 114 – Without insects

"Without insects, there'd be no flowering plants. Without flowering plants, there would be no clever, fruit-eating primates giving TED Talks." Michael Dickinson

Day 108 – Moon Shine

“The moon will guide you through the night with her brightness, but she will always dwell in the darkness, in order to be seen.” ~ Shannon L. Alder

Day 107 – Clouds that come and go

“The sky and the sun are always there. It's the clouds that come and go.” ~ Rachel Joyce I love a perfectly clear blue sky. It is not something we get a lot of in the UK but when we do they are utterly beautiful but a sky with lots of blue and those fat puffy clouds sailing through it are also fabulous. There is something about those clouds that I find beautiful. Yes they block my beloved sun now and then but they also dance across the sky decorating it with their ever changing shapes.

Day 100 – Solitary hours

“Reflection must be reserved for solitary hours; whenever she was alone, she gave way to it as the greatest relief; ~ Jane Austen Lots of people don't like being on their own but I am not one of those. I am an introvert by nature and so a spot like this looks inviting. A place to stop and pause, to just think and watch and ponder always makes me feel content and happy.

Day 93 – Path like this

"As people are walking all the time, in the same spot, a path appears." ~ John Locke That combination of people and nature create something so simple and yet so perfectly beautiful. For me a path like this is an invitation to strike out, one foot in front of the other, to see what lays up head, round a bend or over a hill. It is an irresistible temptation to discover just what it out of sight.

Self portrait of hands reaching out touching

Day 89 – Reachin’ out

"Hands, touchin' hands Reachin' out, touchin' me, touchin' you" ~ Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond This is a self portrait I took and then edited in Topaz Fusion Lens Effect as well as working on the light and contrast to give my hands a dark gnarly look. I know it is probably a bit sinister and spooky to go with this 'sweet' song but I rather like that contrast and the suggestion that the lyrics of this song could have another meaning.

Day 86 – Beautiful Water

"There brews He beautiful water! And beautiful it always is! You see it glistening in the dewdrop; you hear it singing in the summer rain; you see it sparkling in the ice gem when the trees seem loaded with rich jewels!... dancing in the hailstorm, leaping, foaming, dashing...! See how it weaves a golden gauze for the setting sun, and a silvery tissue for the midnight moon!" ~John Bartholomew Gough,

Hastings Fishing boat on the beach in black and white

Day 79 – The Hastings Fishermen

"The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad." ~ A.K. Best I am pretty sure the life of a fishermen must be a tough one. I know here in the UK fishing quotas and the rise of the big supermarkets who drive down wholesale prices has made it all the more harder to make a living. This picture was taken in Hastings, which is home of one of the oldest fishing fleets in the UK. Boats have worked from this part of the beach in front of the ancient town for over a 1000 years. The Hastings Fishermen's…

Day 72 – Highs and lows

“...and where the Ferris wheel carried its passengers high and brought them low and raised them high and brought them low again, as if it were not merely a carnival ride but also a metaphor for the basic pattern of human experience.” ~ Dean Koontz

Day 71 – Who are they?

I cannot help but wonder about these two. I captured them outside Kings Cross Station waiting, but for what, I train, someone else to meet them and who are they to one another, lovers, siblings, friends. I cannot help but wonder...

Day 65 – Mini and me

I think there is no doubt about the genetics at play here.  She is pretty much a mini version of me (to look at that is) apart from the eye colour, which you can not see here, but hers a piercing brilliant blue and mine are a strange green colour.
