Macro shot of Lady ladybird ladybug

Day 210 – Spotted Lady

"How brave a ladybug must be! Each drop of rain is big as she. Can you imagine what you'd do, If raindrops fell as big as you?" ~ Aileen Fisher This little lady landed on the arm of my chair out in the garden and then sat and waited patiently while I went and got my camera. She posed perfectly while I took her picture. The moment the shutter clicked, she set off into the sky. I hope to go and find some of the many tiny bugs that plague my roses but which will fill her belly.

Day 190 – Wasting time

“I like this place and could willingly waste my time in it.” ~ William Shakespeare If going out for a walk with camera in hand is wasting time then have wasted a great deal of it. However I have never felt that to be the case. Quite the opposite in fact. It is an activity that restores me and nurtures me. It never gets boring to me and that tells me a great deal. If that day ever happens then maybe I might start think I am wasting time. In the meantime I shall continue to explore the world, all…

Cat Relaxation sleeping upside down

Day 189 – Relaxation

“The amazing activity of the cat is delicately balanced by his capacity for relaxation. Every household should contain a cat, not only for decorative and domestic values, but because the cat in quiescence is medicinal to irritable, tense, tortured men and women.” ~ William Lyon Phelps

Day 182 – Little Creatures

"When the flower blossoms, the bee will come." ~ Srikumar Rao However this will only continue to be the case if we protect these little creatures. At the moment they are increasingly in danger, mainly from the use of pesticides in farming that cause huge damage to their population. They are vital parts of our earths fragile ecosystem and we ignore their plight at our peril.

Rare grace of a Cat waiting at the end of the path

Day 179 – Rare Grace

“If animals could speak, the dog would be a blundering outspoken fellow; but the cat would have the rare grace of never saying a word too much.” ~ Mark Twain As a general rule I would agree with this statement. It is certainly true of our other cat Miss Rita, who is fairly camera shy, but not off this blundering fool of a cat. Mr Wawa has a lot to say and firmly believes that it is all very important, especially at 3am when you are sleeping. That is prime time for him to need to chat with you. If…

Snail with green shell snails

Day 173 – Garden Snails

“A snail hides in his shell.” ~ George R.R. Martin We have a lot of snails in the garden and slugs too. As a general rule I just leave them to it. I am a big believer in letting the wildlife share my garden. I don't keep it perfect, far from it. I tend to let things do their own thing, only stepping in when it gets completely out of control. As a result the garden is full of life, birds, snails, slugs, ladybirds, bees, ants, and other fabulous bugs. I am fairly sure my neighbour, whose garden looks like…

Lamb tail in green grass

Day 167 – Little Lamb

“Mary had a little lamb, His fleece was white as snow, And everywhere that Mary went, The lamb was sure to go." This field was full of lambs with their Mothers. I spent a long time trying to capture them cavorting round but they were just too unpredictable and all the images came out a bit blurry.  However I really like this one of this little fella happily feasting away on the lush green grass with his woolly white tail clearly all on show. The dark shadow to the right is his Mother who was giving me a good hard…

Cat with large shadow on the pavement of superior cat Mr Wawa

Day 146 – Superior one

“The way to get on with a cat is to treat it as an equal - or even better, as the superior it knows itself to be.” ~ Elizabeth Peters Oh how true this is. This is Mr Wawa, not his first appearance here on my 365 project. He so utterly convinced of his superiority that we often call him King Wawa because that is what he thinks he is. King of everyone and all he surveys. There is no doubt in his mind as far as I he is concerned he is the boss of us and his quiet…

Portrait of a sheep that is called a Shoop

Day 140 – Shoop

My husband has a correction to the English language which he would like the rest of the world to adopt. 1 Goose, 5 Geese, therefore it should be 1 Shoop, 5 Sheep. He is particularly successful with children when it comes to convincing others of his correction and they tend to embrace his words (insanity) with enthusiasm. So in our house this is not a Sheep but a Shoop.

Day 130 – Display of love

“Thou and I are too wise to woo peaceably.” ~ William Shakespeare I took this shot a few weeks ago at a local park. Further down the pond there was another swan gliding about who was clearly this swans lady love because he would head off down to her end of the pond and they would bow their necks to each other in a display of love and drift in gentle contentment around one another. Sadly they were slightly to far away for me to get a really go picture of them but when the other male swans started to…

three little ducks reflected in water

Day 120 – Three little ducks

"Three little ducks went swimming one day..." I found this little cuties on a local fishing pond near my home. There were actually 5 ducklings and their mother but the other 2 seemed much more timid and stayed right beside her all the time whilst these three keep buzzing off all over the place. The mother duck kept a close eye and if they got to far would hurry after them but for the most part she seemed content to float around nearby and let them explore.
