seagull reflection on roof of car, the perfect spot to sit and wait

Day 76 – Perfect spot

"The bird is powered by its own life and by its motivation." ~ A. P. J. Abdul Kalam I am pretty sure this sea gulls main motivation in life is food. If you are wondering about the reflection, it was sitting on the roof of a car that was parked very near the fishing boats. The perfect spot to sit and observe the world and wait for something to happen that was worth moving for, namely food of some sort.

Day 70 – They are gods

“Owners of dogs will have noticed that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they will think you are god. Whereas owners of cats are compelled to realize that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they draw the conclusion that they are gods.” ~ Christopher Hitchens

Day 54 – Laundry Cat

Whiskers and tails And thousands of frails Lion-like nose With an angelesque pose Silky pattern'd fur O'er heart-touching purr. ~Terri Guillemets One of this cats favourite places to sleep is in the dirty laundry. He makes a kind of nest in it and spends hours and hours sleeping the day away. Of course if he can find some clean washing then that seems to be holy grail of sleeping spots but I try to make that a harder task for him because clean laundry with an added layer of cat hair is not ideal, despite what Mr Wawa thinks which…

Day 33 – Horse experience

A lovely horse is always an experience.... It is an emotional experience of the kind that is spoiled by words.  ~Beryl Markham I don't know much about horses. I am not a rider but I do know that they are fine looking creatures. There is a majesty about them that is undeniable. I stumbled across this character on one of my walks. He was very friendly, enjoyed having a nose rub and even seemed happy to stand and let me take his picture.

Day 17 – Horse whispering

“You can kiss me if you like," she said. Alex let go of her and turned away. "Thanks, Fiona," he said. "But frankly I'd prefer to kiss the horse.” ~ Anthony Horowitz Whilst out for a walk recently this horse took quite a fancy to my husband. It took us a few moments to realise that he has discovered the the 3 days of stubble on my husbands face felt really nice being brushed against the top of his lip. He stood there holding his face close and pulling his top lip up and down over and over again lightly…

Regal looking swan with coloured head

Day 336 – Regal

“There is no exquisite beauty… without some strangeness in the proportion.” ~ Edgar Allan Poe This swan stood out from the others. He was by far and way the largest and had this distinctive cooper colouring on the top of head that actually made him look rather regal. I don't think I have seen a swan quite like it before.

Day 332 – A paw in each world

“You cannot live with a paw in each world.” ~ Erin Hunter  Look carefully, what do you see? Is this cat or is this me? There are whiskers and eye lashes, fur and skin. It is a bit of me and a bit of feline him.

Day 326 – Feline disasters

“I have studied many philosophers and many cats. The wisdom of cats is infinitely superior.” ~ Hippolyte Taine My husband recently told me he read a very long article that explained why cats are ecological disasters. I was slightly pleased to hear that part of that argument was about litter and litter trays which I have never indulged in. My cats are very much the outdoor types which I believe is the only way cats should be. I do understand their ecological impact though but I can't help myself when it comes to cats. I am truly a bit of…

Day 318 – Elephant

"Nature's great masterpiece, an elephant; the only harmless great thing." ~ John Donne Although I am pretty sure of you had one charging towards you then you might feel differently. However as great things go the elephant is definitely not a predator. They live in tight knit family groups, although young bull elephants tend to roam alone until they create their own family units. They care for their young and their old. They are the biggest land based mammal and they don't eat meat. They are in my opinion utterly breathtakingly beautiful animals.

Day 312 – Feast

"For most gulls it was not flying that matters, but eating." ~ Richard Bach I found this thief at the back of the fisherman's huts on the beach at Hastings. Oddly he was completely alone despite their being gulls everywhere. At one point one of the fisherman came out and chased him away. He flapped up onto the roof, waited until the guy went back into the hut and returned to his feast. I have a feeling it was a game they played often.

Day 308 – Chicken

"Chicken thoughts arrive in their tiny mad little minds like flashes of a strobe light, each light being an action, each flashing with the brilliance of a not very brilliant thing. Each action utterly random. The complete randomness of chaos. Chickens are notorious escape artists, not due to their ability to devise cunning plans as they huddle together in their coop beneath a bare light bulb, scratching out complex diagrams in the dirt, but simply out of sheet unpredictability. They are the pachinko balls of the animal kingdom, effecting their escapes through the simple device of, say, turning left for…

Heron poised in water reflection

Day 285 – Poised

"I like the idea of taking off like a bird." ~ Florence Welch Can you imagine what that must be like? To be able to just spread your wings and lift yourself up into the air, gracefully and with ease. To be able to fly above the world on a whim. I think we can dream about but I don't think we can ever really appreciate what it is to be able to fly. I wanted to capture this Heron just as it took off but sadly the image I got was too blurred. However I do like how in…
