“Old deeds for old people, and new deeds for new.” ~ Henry David Thoreau
This is Monument in London. It is a monument to the Great Fire of London. It took 6 years to build and was completed in 1667. It stands at the junction of Monument Street and Fish Street Hill and is 202 ft tall. The height is hugely significant because it marks that fact that it stands 202 ft from the spot in Pudding Lane where the Great Fire started on 2 September 1666. Back then the view looking up would have been comletely dominated by the monument but now it is surrounded by new, more modern, structures.
