Day 106 – Vase smiles

Daffodils stems in a glass vase

“The flower in the vase smiles, but no longer laughs.” ~ Malcolm de Chazal

This quote is kinda sad really, the implication that cut flowers are smiling while they bloom but sad inside because they have been cut from their roots. I tend to prefer my flowers in the garden for just this very reason. Daffodils. however, are one of the few flowers that I do love to have in a vase in the house as well as the garden and I think they both smile and laugh even when they are cut, after all the best way to ensure you get more flowers next year is to deadhead them once they are done so cutting them and bringing them indoors to spread some of the joy achieve much the same results.
